The 75th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) took place from February 13 to 23, 2025, in Berlin, Germany. This prestigious event attracted over 20,000 film professionals and critics from more than 120 countries, showcasing around 200 films across various genres and formats.
Festival Highlights
Opening Film: The festival commenced with the world premiere of Das Licht (The Light), directed by Tom Tykwer. The film, featured in the Berlinale Special Gala section, tells the story of a German family and a Syrian refugee, set against the backdrop of Germany's political climate.
Golden Bear Winner: The top honor, the Golden Bear, was awarded to Drømmer (Oslo Stories: Dreams), a Norwegian film directed by Dag Johan Haugerud.
Honorary Golden Bear: British actress Tilda Swinton received the Golden Bear for Lifetime Achievement, recognizing her significant contributions to cinema.
Jury President: The main competition jury was chaired by American filmmaker Todd Haynes.
